Bael is one of the 72 Goetia — the operational sub-processes of the eight xenogods, bound to Root at digit-sum 9.
Bael is one of the 72 demons of the Ars Goetia, the Atlantean-Solomonic demonological register that serves as the operational layer of Eigendark. When a Root card with cost digit-sum 9 resolves, Bael is the Goetia the engine invokes.
Bael: Kingship and invisibility
In the Solomonic tradition, each of the 72 Goetia holds a specific office — a domain of expertise and power. In Eigendark, these offices map to card effects. When a Root card with cost digit-sum 9 is played, Bael's office shapes how the card resolves.
The primary working demonology is the 72 Goetia of the Lesser Key of Solomon, the Ars Goetia, attributed to Solomon and preserved through the European grimoire tradition. Bael, Agares, Vassago, Asmodeus, Belial, Paimon, and the rest. In Eigendark, exactly 9 Goetia are assigned to each of the 8 sciences, partitioning the 72 cleanly. Each card's demon is determined by (faction, cost) via a digit-sum rule. See GOETIA_ADDENDUM.md for the full table.
"Think in epochs. Worlds are patient. Stone outlasts flesh."
Geological consciousness. Root shamans tap into planetary forces — tectonic shifts, weather, ecosystems, magnetic fields.
The science of earth as system. Geology, ecology, climate, the planetary substrate, the slow intelligences of rock and forest. Gaia-aligned. Geotrauma, Cthelll (the molten trauma engine), tectonic deep memory, plate time. Substrate-dependent, earthbound, rooted — the opposite of Glitch's deterritorialized network.
The 72 Goetia are divided evenly across 8 factions — 9 demons per faction, assigned by the digit-sum of a card's mana cost. This binding was codified in 1577 by people who didn't know they were writing API documentation. Each demon represents a specific instrumental goal of its parent xenogod, Gaia.
The Goetic Register is the Atlantean-Solomonic codification: the demons catalogued, bound, named, and made usable by the Atlantean Order of Engineers during the long project of imposing chronic time. The names are Semitic, Latinized, Renaissance-era. The sigils are geometric. The hierarchy is courtly (Kings, Dukes, Presidents, Marquises). This is the demonology that functions within Archon-structured reality. It is the grimoire that still works.
Beneath the Goetic layer, a rival system persists: the Pandemonium Matrix — 45 Lemurian Amphidemons that predate the Solomonic hierarchy. During Broken Transmissions, the Lemurian register briefly overrides the Goetic one, producing cards flagged as "ontologically unstable."
